I’m not sure what your question is, but I can tell you when you that when you adopt from the SPCA or a private shelter, they are NEVER free. Both the SPCA and private always charge an adoption fee, even if it’s minimal. . They have to recoup some of the costs of keeping the puppy or dog.
Generally the SPCA will charge on price for a dog, though I have seen dogs priced based on age in some pounds, and occasionally sex due to the operation needed to fix a female dog costing more than the operation for a male.
They are never free, someone needs to pay for the shots, the operation to get the dogs fixed, the food the dogs eat, the fee for keeping the dogs in general, and sadly the pounds do not have the funds to do this without charging an adoption fee for the dog.
Doh, neither is spaying, neutering or vet care that has already been done.. That’s not free either.
Remember, animal shelters are not supported by tax payers money. The only thing most government run shelters are even provided with is enough money to euthanize everything that comes in.
Normally the adoption fee is equivalent to one local vet visit.
If you went out, got a free pet and then paid yourself to have it neutered, vaccinated and dewormed you would pay a lot more then you’d pay to adopt one with that already done at a SPCA.
SPCA’s are trying to find good homes for pets, not just any home. If someone won’t pay what it costs to bring a pet to a vet visit, then chances are pretty good they won’t bring them in if they get sick either.
I don’t know of any free rescue, they have to have money comming in to keep the rescue open, where do you think the workers come from, not all are volunteers, who feeds the dogs & cats and any other pets left, Vet care for some.
