Just a side comment on the fleece for bedding. The Dollar Store in our area is carrying fleece pet blankets with paw prints on them and they are 30″ x 30″ which happens to be the right size for the bottom of a chinchilla mansion
A buck a hit – I got a bunch to be able to change them out regularly.

chinchillas cosy from 50-10,000 dollars
my smallest cage is 250 dollars
food 12-15 dollars
hay a week around 13 a week
I use FLEECE as bedding…easier to clean, no chance for allergy, softer…
about 7 -10 dollars once
I use a CHINSPIN its around 50 dollars
DO NOT USE PLASTIC WHEELS,.,plastic is toxic to chinchillas
chew sticks and toys around 30-50 dollars a month
vet care about 500-2000a year
and this is without disease

they are from $100-200
cages $50-100 they need big cages
food about $12 for a big bag
betting can be pretty costly about $10 for a bag but you need to change it every week
you need a wheel for exresice $10-20
chew toys $10 they need big onmes so they dont choke.

pet stores make pet supplies a lot more expensive then they should be like it doesnt cost them near 20$ to make a exercise wheel and beware of bad brands always keep the recipt and box!!!!

Thanks, he is no longer scared of me, he climbs on me, plays with me etc but still doesnt completely trust me, always keeps an eye on me. And never lets me hold him. But things are getting better. Thanks

you need to win your chinchillas trust, like the song says you don’t own them they own you… i had one once, he came from the pet shop and was really scared so i rescued him to a good home! it took a while but, was well worth the effort!!!! do as jglaser333 says. try not to force them too much, just let them know what you want and the treats can help to train them to understand you… i hope you don’t mind me sticking my oar in but i thought i might be able to help!!!
