Do city born animals still have the ability to hibernate?

By Cow

Because animals living in the city can find food 24-7, and have been doing so for more than ten generations, do these new city born animals know how to hibernate? If you take a city racoon and dump him in the middle of the woods, would he survive?
I’m basically wondering if the city wildlife had evolved past needing to hibernate, or in another hundred years the offspring will still ‘know’ how to hibernate

In theory they should, as hibernation (and most other circannual cycles) is controlled from within my ‘biological clocks’ (just a bunch of hormones and other stuff).
As long as the animal builds up to the time of hibernation properly (ie feeds lots etc) it should be ok….

Yes they do but in some circumstances they lose the ability because the conditions in what they are are not met and then they don’t hibernate
