If you bought a registered puppy, the registration papers list the breeders name. http://www.nopuppymills.com has a free service that will enable you to get info on the breeder to see if they have been reported or not as being a puppy mill. If you bought a mixed breed puppy or a “non-registered” puppy you probably have a puppy mill dog.

Almost all petstores get there puppies from mills or BYB.
No responsible breeder would sell there puppies to a pet store.
You should never buy any animals from a petstore, always look for local breeders or rescue groups.

why don’t you ask them? or why didn’t you ask before you got the puppy? most reputable breeders don’t sell their puppies to pet stores because they would rather choose the families that the dogs go to themselves. also, they don’t HAVE to sell the pups to stores because they have good reputations and have enough resources to sell their puppies themselves.

never get a dog from a pet store. they get their dogs from puppymills. if the store wasnt willing to share the name and number of the place that they get their dogs from chances are that they came from a puppymill. if i were you i would take that dog back

More than likely a mill… get your paperwork. Even if it says AKC, your dog is probably not going to look like what you think it should in 6 months.

I was at the dog park and some woman came up to me with her 20 lb pet store bought Maltese… I was like whoa.

A good reputable breeder would NEVER have their dogs sold in a petshop.
