they eat the prey. its keeps the circle of life going. like in lion king. mufasa was actually legit.

Because there are over-populated species of animals. So, predators eat the over-populated species so they don’t get wayy too large of a species.

Say a lion is hunting zebras: The lion takes the weaker zebras out of the pack therefore helping with evolution and keeping the pack strong.

they keep the ecosystem healthy, because if they weren’t there, then the prey would overpopulate, finish eating all of the plants, and then the prey would wipe out because there would be no more food for their survival.
taking out the predator would cause a chain reaction.
