How many tiger barbs could I have in a 46 gallon tank?

By Cow

I have a 46 gallon fish tank with some other fish in it and I am wondering if I could put a school of 6 tiger barbs. The other fish I got in the tank is 3 small albino tinfoil barbs, little red tailed shark,2 small silver dollars, and a little firemouth. How many tiger barbs could I put in the tank?

Well you have to remember 1 inch per one gallon, but silver dollars can get failry large so keep that in mind. Tinfoil barbs can also get quite large as well. I don’t think there’s any issue with a school of 6, but definitely no more.

1″ of fish per gallon = 1′ of dead fish per gallon, because most aquarists don’t tank the full mature size of fish into account. You could put at most 10 Tiger Barbs into the tank, 3-4 at a time, to let the cycling bacteria catch up. Tiger Barbs on average, grow to about 3″, when they’re fully grown. Make sure that you monitor your tank closely, to make sure the barbs don’t nip the other fishes’ fins. However, if you get a big group (like 10), aggression won’t normally be a problem.
Good Luck!

Add at least 6 silver dollars as well, they are schooling fish.
6 tigers would be good.

To hell with the 1 inch thing, you got a screwed up tank. What kind of person are you and where did you learn about fish keeping…ACME do it yourself for morons? YOu can’t keep that many fish in a 46 gallon tank to begin with. YOu need more help then this place can give. Go back to school and learn what fish keeping is about, or go dump them in your 125 you been glinting on instead of stunting them in yo ur puny 46 jackass.
