In Memory of Abused Animals of Greece

By Cow

The abusive treatment of animals in Greece is absolutely appalling and has been going on for many, many years. Their government just seem not to care, and as one Greek friend said, they dont bother about their own people and the elderly, so why would they care about animals. There are a many decent greek people trying to help, but they openly admit, they are in the minority, a good majority are in denial and the rest are just cruel thugs, not like the greeks we read about in history books at school. I do applaud those greeks that are doing what they can to try and stop this cruelty and I feel sorry that they admit they are shameful. The one’s who are in denial, simply throw out the old chestnut, well it is not just our country. But “our country” has been in the EU for 27 years, flout more EU regulations than any other, and have the worst record per capita for animal abuse in Europe. Greece is not an impoverished country, and claws in millions of tourist euro. Hundreds of thousands of cats and dogs have been destroyed,noticably prior to the Athens Olympics in 2004. PETA and WSPA tried to get involved prior to this, but the with greek attitude about humane euthanasia (they prefer poisoning) and their backward attitude towards neutering programs, talks fell apart. Incidentally, 12 million euro were destined for shelters and neutering programs, but this has just vanished!!!!!! A lot of people are unaware of this cruelty, possibly because they go in the summer, but my daughter

10 percent are animal lovers only 10 percent? wow then maybe im living in another country, i believe most of the greek people care about animals or at least don’t poison and kill them, the mentality has changed since the 80’s for instance and the fact that greek people expose this stuff means lots of people care, now ofcourse if those sick people who did this stuff got a great imprisonment or very very big fine maybe they wouldn’t dare repeat it

You only have a small population, around 10 million, but still hold the worst record of animal abuse, per capita, in the EU. A survey showed that 10 percent of greeks are animal abusers, and 10 percent are animal lovers. However, it is the 80 percent who are indifferent (including the past governments) who are just as dangerous to ignore and turn a blind eye and they are in fact, almost as bad as abusers themselves.

Sorry, I didnt see this comment before. Of course I am not a racist, you have to realise that just because you love animals doesnt mean the rest of greece is like that and whilst you are covering up the facts, it is not helping the situation, it all needs to be exposed to stop it and make Greece more attractive to tourists because sooner or later, people who are on the internet will wise up and not want to visit.

H1978, believe me I know,was speaking to one of my greek friends this morning, she said VAT is going up to 21 percent on monday and petrol also going up. Its a very sad state of affairs & is going to cause a lot of hardship for decent greeks, and of course is going to make things even worse for the animals.

It has been a terrible week, 2 puppies bashed, 1 killed in Ioannina,12 animals poisoned in Nafplion within 10 days & just heard today 30 cats poisoned and died in agony in Peristeri,Athens

5

and about the government it is fucked up and i agree its not applying the laws on many issues believe me not just animal issue

6

@hateanimalabuse and then you say you re no racist right? lol what a joke, if you must know i am greek and have 2 dogs in my house and i condemn animal brutality just as much as you BUT i don’t agree that its the majority of greeks who do this sick stuff not the majority, most of the greek people even in towns have at least 1 pet in their house, you take some examples of sick people and you label all greeks as animal abusers well i think we should label you as racist don’t you think?

@loulouthaki007

Patriotic about Greece i suppose!?
You have no idea the amount of messages i get from Greeks telling me i’m a foreigner and i should get out of their country. In a way i understand it, in another i don’t! I take nothing from you. I spend all my money in your economy and help animals while i do it.
I’d see their point if i was stealing from you, the way foreigners do when they go to my country!
Anyway, thank you lou, xxx

@Riskyt69… Patriotic? about what? Theyre an embarrassment to the planet, an embarrassment to their ancestors .. Their government is corrupt theyre all money hungry like 90% of the greek population. I truly think people should stop vacationing there, till they find a more humane way to deal with the over population and severely penalize the abusers. I have not vacationed there in many years for this reason and Im embarrassed to say Im greek.

fuck all the greece abusive for animals so freaky

It is a sad fact of life that many animals suffer abuse of some kind during their lives. Abuse can take the form of physical assaults or punishment – but many suffer from the silent abuse of neglect. please support abused pets by visiting

@Greekboy2009

It’s okay. Just you saying something like that gives me hope. Normally the other Greeks get rude, abusive and patriotic!
So, thank you Greekboy, x

i love animal cruelty

22

Greece is very cruel to animals so in the sense a lot of animals don’t trust people it is very sad and I’m glad that I no longer live in that Country.

23

I meant to click on the thumbs up. The paticipants do not believe the animals have feelings, if they were dispatched in the same way, the cruelness would stop, b/c people can speak and tell each other about the pain, the pets only die in lonliness and fear. How sad. RIP little souls, big hearts.

24

I almost didn’t believe it. A place as beautiful as Greece, I was ignorant thinking that they wouldn’t be barbaric . I guess if you’re human, it comes witht the territory. This just proves that we all ARE created equal. Equally disgusting and equally caring. It’s just too bad the two sides can’t come to an agreement. May God help them, both of them, the pets that are trapped on the island and the empty souls that participate.

25

Wow, Greece tortures Animals, too? I don’t know how people live with themselves that do this vile shit. They don’t deserve beautiful, loving pets.
