Should I get my dog from a breeder, pet shop, or adoption center?

By Cow

I’m going to the breeder beacuse the dog I want is kind rare (its like a mix between 5 diff dogs)and doubt it would be in a pet shop (but who knows). Where should i go?

Thanks

Shelters can have mixes of 10+ dogs!

Seriously it’s impossible to find a responsible breeder that breeds dogs that are a crossbreed of 5 different dogs, unless they have a very specific breeding program to make a new breed (and I DOUBT they’d give you one of their dogs). Expect bundles of health issues and vet bills if you get one from a breeder.

Uhh, maybe you should be a little less picky? There are plenty of mutts at the shelters that need homes.

If its a mix between 5 different dogs, then its not a breed. A pet shop is NEVER an option, they get their dogs from puppy mills and BYBs. I say go to the adoption center because they usually have mixes, which is the dog you looking for right?

So i say you should go to the adoption center!

well personally I think you should adopt, there are thousands of animals that need loving homes :)

o.O? five different breeds? From a breeder? Do not and I mean seriously do not buy this animal. All you a buying is a Heinz 57 dog who could have god knows any number of genetic defaults. Either go to a shelter and get an adorable mutt or purebred from there or get a regular single breed dog from a REPUTABLE breeder.

go to the breeder.. dogs are better taken care of here
pet stores get their puppies from puppy mills and they are not treated well at the mills so i would never buy anything at the pet stores. you can adopt but it’s rare to ever find a puppy you’re looking for.

7

Save a life, opt to adopt! You’ll find plenty of “rare” dogs there!

8

everybody will say shelter
but go to a shelter and see if not a breeder

9

i think you should get it from an adoption center because think of the saving the dogs life

Good luck…
You will NEVER find what you are looking for at a reputable breeder…THey breed only “pure” dogs…not a 5 breed mix.
If there is a “breeder” doing what you are looking for, it’s a puppy mill and best of luck…there is not telling how a mixed breed will turn out.

I’m curious as to what this “breed” is. A mix between 5 different dogs typically qualifies as a mutt. And if it is as rare as you say then you should really only be getting the dog from an extremely reputable breeder, or get a similar dog at a shelter. If you are set on specific qualities, I would research some other standard breeds and seek out a breeder in your area. I would be cautious of any breeder claiming a “rare” breed that crosses a bunch of other breeds though. Sounds like a scam to me.

if you are wanting a mixed breed dog.. then go to a rescue.

Dont buy from a “breeder” they are only breeding for profit and are not out to create healthy, sound animals.

Please support rescue. NEVER, EVER give a cent to people who are breeding mixed breed dogs. I am not being rude, I am telling you the truth. Regardless of their claims, they are ALL backyard breeders and puppymills, as all they care about is money. They don’t care about the thousands of dogs, purebred and mixed, young and old, that are literally dying as they wait for a new home. They also don’t care about the health and temperament of the animals that they breed. By buying from these “breeders” or pet stores, you are supporting the puppy mill industry.
