What camera lens is best for pet photography?

Can you tell me what lens she uses?
Does she increase the exposure?
Does she blur out the edges of the photo using photoshop or is it done with the camera?
How can I achieve the same look with a Canon XSI?

Grace Chon will tell you she uses Canon equipment and has since she was a little girl, she “post processes” (Gasp!) With Lightroom and Photshop….you could email her and ask her which lenses she uses and prefers, you’ll probably get directed to a list or an answer that includes “it varies”….

Well, since pet photography is a subset of the portrait variety of photography I would guess a portrait lens would work fine.
If you are on a budget you could get the 50mm f/1.8 which is about $120.
Or, if you have more money you could get the 50mm f/1.4 which is about $325 I believe.
Basically the difference between the f/1.8 and f/1.4 is only 1/3 of a stop which is negligible. However the f/1.4 is probably sharper wide open so you may lose a whole stop with the f/1.8 to get to where it really performs, perhaps around f/2.8. Still not a huge difference.

50mm 1.8 and an 85mm 1.8 and you’d be good… you would also have to learn photoshop or another graphic editing program… she used a lot of retouching for her blurred backgrounds

The photographer is using all different focal lengths. If they have been shooting since they were a kid then they probably have an arsenal of lenses. According to her blog she is currently using the Canon EOS 5D Mark II. Now that the digital market has matured and prices have fallen I think you will find most pros making the transition to FF. Your client deserves it.
I would guess that she is commonly using a 24-70mm f/2.8 and a 85 f/1.8. Perhaps the occasional 50mm f/1.4
She is blurring and vignetting digitally but she is doing it in camera as well. Depending on the look she is after.
