What happens to your dog if YOU die, who would take your dog / pets?
By
Have you made arrangements if your dog if you die all of a sudden you and your spouse, or partner, or significant other?
Would a family member take your dog/pets?
I have 3 fish tanks, a pond with 5 turtles , 2 cats and a Moose of a dog!
I guess I should make arrangements..

I’d say your family members would take them. Why didn’t you think they wouldn’t? Awwww they are so adorable!

family is bound to take your pets if you die, most will unless they hate pets, which is why it probably should be talked about before hand, so in your will or just a verbal agreement you can state who will get the pets.

i think they get rendered at a slaughter house fed to the cows and pigs.

i have arranged for my fiance to keep my dog but if he ever can’t the dog will be taken by my parents. you can get this written into your will but talk to the person who you would like to be “godfather/mother.”
if you don’t make arrangements then your animals could become the property of the state and taken to the pound.

no one in my family wants my dog so i made arrangements for her groomer to take her if anything happens to me.
my aunt’s dog does not get along with anyone. if you visit you have to wait till she is shup up before getting out of car. she says that she will have her put down if she dies first.

my dog has a guardian named in my will . she has agreed to take the dog in the event of my disability or death. My sister is executor of the will. If the guardian is not available ; my sister has agreed to place the dog with a suitable. person. Money is left to pay for a month boarding at her vet. I am also leaving money for her care if a senior citizen wants her but has a financial concern about adopting.

I have instructions about what to do with my dogs in case I suddenly die. I have already arranged with the people who will be taking them & left it in my will. Everyone should have a plan in place since often family can’t or don’t want your pets & take them to the shelter or give them away.

I have a will in place. Any pets in my care at the time of my death with a specific family member and if they are unable to care for them (die before me or become physically unable to care for them) I have 2 back up caregivers in a specific order. Which ever one receives my pets also receives money for their care.
Don’t ever assume your family will care for your pets. Ask who you would like to take them then specifiy it in writing. Always have a back up or 2 also specified in writing. I have seen far to many pets end up in shelters when the owners died and family members didn’t want to deal with them because either they did not get along with their own pets or because they couldn’t have a pet where they lived or simply didn’t want them

Simple. The pets are considered property and will follow the wishes of your estate…
If you have a will, you should state in the will who gets your pets.
It sounds like you are very young, so your parents will get your pets.

I have 3 cats, and then two foster cats (a mom and her kitten) a betta fish, 2 pet mice, and a dog.
My mom would. Any time I need someone to watch my pets, she does it

Don’t worry Sis (Dances With Woofs) I’ll take them. I’ll just have to figure out how to get them here first
)
My daughter would take care of the animals if anything happened to me, she takes care of them now for the most part.. except for the food bills and vet bills, that seems to fall to me

This actually happened to me in 2007.I did die and was brought back to life,I was given my last rights..I have 11 dogs and I don’t know what my hisband would of done with all of the.I know my daughters would of taken 1 each and my husband would keep a couple, but after that I don’t know and don’t want to ask.I now have made arrangements that if I die that money is set aside for them to be taken care of for the rest of their lives.I hope that the person assigned would do exactly that. They are young 3-4 and 7yrs so they have awhile.Like you I am 59 and hope to be around to raise my babies..

Not the happiest thought, but a practical & necessary one. Yes arrangements are in place for both my Dobermanns.
If a family member was unable to house my Dobermanns {very unlikely scenario} my b*tch would be returned to her responsible breeder to be rehomed {a term in the contract}, & a family member would be allowed to meet prospective new owners.
I have remained on good terms with the breeder of my b*tch & she would assist in finding a permanent home for my male Dobermann.
My family are aware that I would not want my male Dobermann surrendered to Dobermann rescue, as I would want someone who knew him to have a hand in choosing his new home.

My hubby would take my pets. If something were to happen to him, his parents and my parents would take them.
I have 3 dogs, 2 goldfish, 2 neon tetras, 1 mouse, 1 Russian dwarf hamster, and 1 guinea pig.
