I know the types of birds petsmart sells and the price but thats in my area they sell parakeet which r very cute for 30 bucks each, they sell finch’s which r 22 bucks each, they sell really young parrots for arround 100 bucks i think and they sell coackaties for 60 bucks. Ireacommend u buy a parakeet there really easy to tame and there fun to play with. Have fun when u get your bird.

Skylar,

The pet stores in my area sell:

Finches – about twenty dollars
Canaries – about twenty dollars
Lovebirds – thirty to fifty dollars
Cockatiels – one hundred and twenty dollars
Conures – six hundred dollars
Parakeets – twenty dollars

When you buy the food, cage, bird, treats, toys, perches, cuttle bone, mineral block, fruits and vegetables, you are looking at about:

Finches – ninety dollars all together
Canaries – a hundred dollars all together
Lovebirds – a hundred fifty all together
Cockatiels – two hundred all together
Conures – nine hundred all together
Parakeets – a hundred all together

I would suggest getting a parakeet, finch, or canary if you are a beginner bird. They are easier and very cheap! I have three parakeets, and they only costed me about a hundred and fifteen dollars each because I got them from a breeder. I do not recommend getting one from a pet store. Fifty percent of the time the animals are injured, ill, untamed, malnourished, dehydrated, or too young or too old. Get one from a breeder, and you can get a hand fed and hand tamed social bird. E-mail me at MackenzieRussell@yahoo.com and tell me what state you live in and what city, and I could find you a good breeder in your area.

Hi! What kind of bird do you want? If you want your bird to be tame then I would not recommend buying it at a pet store like petco. I would try to find a breeder or a pet store that specializes in birds and make sure to get a healthy hand fed bird that will already step up on your finger. Go visit the bird before you buy it and see how tame it is. Most birds you buy at bigger pet stores won’t be tame and taming your own bird takes a lot of time and patience and unless you’re up for the challenge that can be very frustrating.
Also be aware that a bird like a cockatiel, which is a good first bird, will need a lot of attention and out of cage time. You’ll have to be its flock … you’re the only company MaryJane will have so make sure you’ll actually be able to spend lots of time with her. If you don’t think you’ll have a lot of time for your bird I would get a pair of finches. They won’t want to play with you but they also won’t need your attention to be happy. They’ll keep each other company and are a lot of fun to watch.
Good luck choosing a bird!
