What to do when u want to keep your pets but can’t at the moment? Is there a Temporary Shelter? (in chicago)?

I just found out that I need to move rather rapidly however I have a small dog and cat. I love my animals to death and it would kill me to just give them up. The friend that is allowing me to move in cannot have pets and I don’t have any family to take my pet. Is there a shelter where I can pay for my pets to say for a month or a couple of weeks until i find a suitable place?

There are pet boarding and kennel facilities for people for on holidays etc, but if you explain your situation I am sure you could find someone to look after your animals, maybe even work out a monthly/weekly rate.

You can board your pets at a kennel. The price can vary based on where you go and how long the stay is.
You may be able to find someone who will take your pets in their home for the amount of time you need. This is like boarding but in a more ‘normal’ setting (still a home, not a kennel). You can advertise one kijiji or craigslist looking for someone to do this.
Asking a rescue if they are able to take the pets for a few weeks. Offer to pay for all expenses. This may not be possible as lots of rescues use foster homes and have a limited number of them and they are needed for pets in need.

Family and friends. That is why they are there. Talk to them and allow someone to help you in troubled times. If that doesn’t work out try craig’s list for a foster family. If that doesn’t work out revisit family & friends. Find someone that can help. It will benefit you as much as it does them in building a connection between you.Someone you love will step up. Keep asking until you find a way.
When I got pregnant for the first time my OBGYN told me to get rid of my cat. I told him to come up with another idea. My daughter is 15, and my baby Merlin, just passed. My cat was an important part of my children’s lives. I fought for him and he gave back 10 fold!
If you love your baby you will find a way. If not, find a parent who will except the responsibility for life. Your baby deserves unconditional love!
Love you and your baby!

Call a boarding kennel, there are lots of them in that area. Your vet likely can recommend one to you- mine keeps a list that they distribute of local kennels they have found to be satisfactory. there will also be listings in your local phone book, but I would tour them before you choose one if it is not specifically recommended to you. You can pay to have them stay there for a period of time. Dropping off at a shelter is a permanent deal and you don’t get them back.
