You need to give this some serious consideration. Anyone selling exotic animals (such as the ones you've suggested) online, most likely isn't very reputable.
Aside from that, you should research the type of care one of these animals requires, and whether they would do well with the climate in New York, as their natural habitat is very different from where you live. What about a vet? Is there one nearby that would be able to treat your exotic pet?
Something a little less unusual might be a better way to go.

New York
Category: B
Summary of Law: It is unlawful for a person to possess a wild animal. A wild animal is defined as: all members of the felidae family (except domestic cats); all members of the canidae family (except domestic dogs); all bears; all non-human primates, venomous reptiles, and crocodiles. A person who possesses a wild animal on the effective date of the law, January 1, 2005, has 60 days to obtain a permit for the animal with the Department of Environmental Conservation.
Citation: N.Y. ENVTL. CONSERV. §11-0103, §11-0303, §11-0511, §11-0512, §11-0516, §11-0103, and §11-0917; N.Y. AGRIC. & MKTS. §370.http://www.api4animals.org/b4a2_exotic_a…
Since it does not specifically say koalas or wallaroos, it might be possible. Check with your state DNR. If okay with state, still check with your county and local authorities, Many individual counties and municipalities ban the ownership of animals otherwise legal within the state.
koalas are protected, and can not be kept as pets:
"We won't find them for sale in any pet stores! Besides, it’s illegal to keep a koala as a pet in Australia. The koala is a protected species and has been for quite some time." http://geography.about.com/library/misc/…
Wallaroos are offered for sale in the US. Here is one breeder in Texas: http://www.drzoolittle.net/wallaby.html
Before you decide you want a wallaroo (if NY would even allow it), you might want to see the discussion on this message board: http://www.envirotalk.com.au/forum/index…
